Agoraphobia Counselling in Stockport

Agoraphobia is an irrational fear of being in places where you would be unable to escape, or you wouldn’t be able to get help, if things “went wrong”. If you live in Stockport and suffer from agoraphobia then don’t worry, you’re not on your own. This is a very common phobia and lots of Stockport people suffer from agoraphobia to one degree or another.

A lot of people think that agoraphobia is a fear of being in open spaces but it is actually more than that. A person suffering from agoraphobia may be afraid of:

• Travelling on buses, trains, etc
• Shopping in a busy shopping centre
• leaving the house

If agoraphobia sufferers find themselves in stressful situations, they usually feel panicky symptoms, for example:

• racing heartbeat
• heavy, hard breathing (hyperventilating)
• hot sweats
• nausea

The result of these experiences is that the agoraphobia sufferer may be reluctant to leave the house, start to shop online, and become housebound.

If you are housebound, don’t worry. I offer a home visit service around the Stockport area and with the help of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy we will get you out and about again.

Call me to book a session! The first session is free so what have you got to lose? For Stockport agoraphobia counselling and treatment look no further than Stockport Counselling Services.
