Anorexia Nervosa

Anorexia Nervosa is a serious eating disorder characterised by the maintenance of a very low body weight. So, if you are very obsessed with your body shape or weight, and your life is ruled by thinking about this, then this is a problem. If you are actively trying to stay thin or get thinner and have a BMI of 17.5 or less, then you are anorexic. Maybe your periods have stopped too. This is an effect of starvation.

If you have anorexia nervosa (anorexia), you will be denying feelings of hunger. You will be doing things like going to bed hungry, deceiving loved ones by pretending to eat, you may even be eating and vomiting sometimes.

The reason that anorexia gets such a strong grip, is that the brain starts to behave differently when a person is deprived of food. We call this the ‘anorexic mindset’.

If you live in Stockport or the Stockport area and would like counselling for anorexia, then I can help.

Our work together will be to tackle the anorexic mindset and work towards getting you eating in a healthy and controlled manner. We will not be working towards getting you ‘fat’. I will educate you on how to tackle your illness in the future and how to recognise warning signs that you are at risk of becoming anorexic again.

I use a special enhanced CBT model to treat the anorexia, it’s based on the most up to date research and has the highest success rate of all eating disorder treatments to date.
